A new biopic based on the life of Jeff Buckley could go into production later this year.
Jeff Buckley recorded just one album before tragically dying in 1997. However the impact the singer had ensured his posthumous fame, with fans finding 'Grace' a continual source of inspiration.
Perhaps the album's best known track is the emotive version of 'Hallelujah' which has itself enjoyed a resurgence in popularity. Showcased by both American Idol and X Factor, the talent shows sparked a fan led campaign which put Jeff Buckley into the upper echelons of the charts.
Since passing away, numerous Jeff Buckley recordings have been unearthed including a number of filmed concerts. A captivating performer, it now seems that a film could be made on the singer's tragic life.
According to reports in the United States, a movie is on the cards with 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson said to be intrigued by the role.
Producer Michelle Sy is rumoured to be helming the project, with Jeff Buckley's mother Mary Guibert firmly behind the film. NME reports Guibert as saying: "Robert is a fine young actor. I'm flattered he's been linked to this project. When the time comes we'll give everybody an opportunity to be seen and heard."
The producer had previously suggested that anyone who plays Jeff Buckley must be able to sing and play the guitar - no mean feat, given the singer's chops. With a stunning voice, Buckley was also a gifted guitarist who won praise from Led Zeppelin icon Jimmy Page following a typically volcanic live concert.
It is unclear if the film will be a full biopic. Born to the folk singer Tim Buckley, Jeff Buckley never knew his mercurial father and grew up in poverty.
Making his first prominent appearance at a memorial concert for his father, the young singer enjoyed a brief but startling career before tragically drowning while swimming in the Memphis river.
The Jeff Buckley film has yet to begin filming.
