Cloud Nothings - Cloud Nothings

Essentially the brainchild of Cleveland teenager Dylan Baldi, and arriving soon after last autumn’s ‘Turning On’ (a compilation of his early DIY singles), this ‘proper’ debut album was written in a fortnight and recorded with Baltimore producer Chester Gwazda. Consequently, it’s more refined with Baldi still steamrollering through his high velocity frat-punk.

There are hooks aplenty, but it is only when the freneticism relents on the driving Wilco-esque ‘Forget You All The Time’ does Baldi’s songwriting potential become apparent. His prodigious talent is undoubted, but a second dose of puppy punk feels suggests Baldi is in cruise control.
