Panda Bear is set to release a limited edition single on German label Kompakt later this year.
Completing his new album 'Tomboy' last year, Panda Bear has kept fans in anticipation. Releasing material via a series of seven inches, the songwriter has teamed up with some hugely respected imprints.
One off releases have been arranged with Fat Cat and Domino, while Panda Bear's own Paw Tracks has taken care of an additional release. Now the singer has confirmed details of the final single in the series.
Teaming up with German label Kompakt, Panda Bear will release 'Surfers Hymn' on March 14th. Stripping things down to the bare essentials, the producer loops his voice into complex harmonies.
Tied together with the thud of a bass drum, 'Surfers Hymn' will be joined by a very special remix. Honest Jon's producer Actress has tackled the blissed out track, emphasising the primitive drumbeat.
At times recalling the minimal work of Chilean producer Villalobos, the remix is placed on the B-side of the new single. Kept to a strictly limited edition, Scott Mou once again tackles design issues. Preparing the front cover, the artist completes a quartet of inventive designs for the series.
Kompakt are quite an unusual choice for the release, given the label's history as a dance powerhouse. But with the German imprint diversifying - and Panda Bear notably influenced by electronic music - the pairing seems an appropriate way to end the series.
Keeping fans waiting almost a year, the full length album 'Tomboy' is set to drop later this Spring. With Sonic Boom on hand to assist with mixing duties, the follow up to 'Person Pitch' is now finally set to be released.
Due to drop in April, the four singles will form the spin of the new album but as ever with Panda Bear expect the unexpected.
Panda Bear is due to release 'Tomboy' on April 18th.
