Reading newcomers Tripwires are set to release their debut album 'Spacehopper' on May 23rd.

Shoegaze emerged from the Thames Valley, shy and peering down at its feet. With The Scene That Celebrates Itself gaining renewed recognition, the pressure is on for Britain to find a band who can compete with the Brooklyn scene.

It seems that there is one right under our nose. Hailing from Reading, Tripwires have a love of vintage reverb drenched riffs back with a real crunch. Far more than a mere re-tread of former glories, debut single 'Cinnamon' was a sizzling introduction to this quartet.

Since then, a handful of live appearances have brought Tripwires much attention. Dripping with potential, the band went into the studio last year to work on getting their live set down on magnetic tape.

Signed to cult London imprint Club AC30, Tripwires recorded their debut album in a whirlwind nine days. Recorded, mixed and mastered in a little over a weekend this is economy matched with precision.

Due to be released this May, the album will be preceded by the new single 'A Sunshine Overdose'. Due to be released on April 18th, the track will be available on transparent yellow vinyl 7” and download.

The full tracklisting for the album contains a few hints as what to expect. Shoegaze was riddled with single words - Ride, Lush, Loop etc - and the album does not disappoint with tracks such as 'Shimmer' and 'Paint'.

However stylistically Tripwires are always aiming to evolve, citing Talk Talk, Brian Eno and more as influences. Guess we'll find out soon...

Alongside the new album, the band have confirmed details of a lengthy tour. Acting as the main support for Does It Offend You, Yeah? the shoegaze group are set to preview material from their debut LP.

Tripewires are due to release 'Spacehopper' on May 23rd.
