Holly Golightly & The Break Offs are to release their new album 'No Help Coming' on April 25th.
The great garage rock revival has receded. The White Stripes announced their split last month, and with their passing went a generation raised on Nuggets, The Stooges and the myths of Detroit.
However despite the media spotlight passing them by a few trustworthy figures are keeping the flame alive. A garage rock veteran, Holly Golightly is now based in Georgia but retains the same artistic outlook.
Working with her group The Broke Offs, Holly Golightly has stuck to the same artistic template which first inspired her: brutal, basic chords with a vintage Americana feel. Set to release her new album 'No Help Coming' on April 25th, the singer reflected on her musical outlook.
“I’m proud to say that I don’t think there’s been much development at all, really,” she asserts. “I still only know the same chords I did when I was 14, and I still write songs about the same things. But I did get a tuner three years ago, which was monumental.”
Working in a deeply DIY fashion, Holly Golightly & The Break Offs began work on the new album last year. A twelve song set, the band have included two deeply personal readings of psychotic American classics.
Mr. Undertaker’s 1955 rhythm-and-blues cult classic “Here Lies My Love” and Wendell Austin’s vintage psycho-country epic “L.S.D. Made a Wreck of Me” both appear on 'No Help Coming'.
With more than twenty albums under her belt, Holly Golightly has no need to experiment. Equally, fans know what to expect - prime, frenzied Americana seen through the distorted lens of a Londoner.
