Former Beatle and all round musical legend Sir Paul McCartney has played a storming headline set at Hard Rock Calling.
When it comes to making up a set, Sir Paul McCartney's only problem is working out which era-defining tracks to leave out. Blessed with an incredible back catalogue, the singer drew on his full resources during a stunning set at Hard Rock Calling.
The festival takes place in Hyde Park, with enormous crowds descending on the historic area. Sir Paul McCartney took the stage to enormous cheers, blasting through some of his best loved hits.
However it wasn't a walk down memory lane, with the former Beatle also playing new material from his project The Fireman.
On typically chipper form, Sir Paul McCartney paused to look out over the 50,000 strong crowd. The singer surveyed the banners floating across the crowd, with one asking for his autograph in a rather cheeky place.
"We got one here that says, 'Sign my butt and I'll get it tattooed.' The answer to that is no" laughed the legendary performer.
Amongst the highlights were a host of Beatles tracks, including a ukelele led version of 'Something'. A George Harrison classic, McCartney paid tribuse to his friend as well as fellow Beatle John Lennon.
Finishing with 'Hey Jude' the entire crowd seemed to be singing the refrain, long after Paul McCartney disappeared from sight. Returning to wild applause the singer played two lengthy encores, finishing with the 'Abbey Road' classic 'The End'.
The entire concert was streamed online, with all funds being donated to the Born HIV Free campaign. "I want to thank Paul McCartney for donating this performance for the Born HIV Free campaign," Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the charity's Global Fund Ambassador, said in a statement.
"Through this live stream, we share our common belief in a world where all children can be born free from HIV".
