O. Children Album Preview

Read a track by track guide and hear snippets from O. Children's self titled debut album.

Released on Deadly People on July 12th, the band's Tobi O'Kandi gives us a track by track breakdown of the album's songs while you can hear them for yourself in the player below.

But, first it's over to Tobi...

"This is just me writing off the top of my head so feel free to paraphrase. I kinda want people to make up their minds about the tracks and their subjects also.

Malo
Malo is not so much about a woman, as it's just about life. I think it might be about trying so hard to get away from something and then when you do get away from it you realise it was the only thing keeping you together. It means bad, or naughty in Spanish. It's also the name of Carlos Santana's brother's band.

Dead Disco Dancer
First song I ever wrote with O. Children. I have no idea where it came from and it was always meant to be a b-side. But I really like it. It has nothing to do with The Smiths. I have only ever heard one song by the Smiths in my life.

Heels
This lady always hung out at the same bar/club as I did a few years ago. She always looked so well put together, yet so sad. All the time. She also always wore heels.

Fault Line
Rebellion. Teen Angst. Stuff like that.

Smile
This happened when I was alone at Christmas. I'd never seen anywhere so empty ever. It didn't bring me down or anything. I just liked how quiet it was.

Ezekiel's Son
My father is called Ezekiel. He has been an ordained priest for about a year and 4 months and no one told me till about 2 weeks ago. This song speaks for itself.

Ruins
The closest I will ever get to writing the script to a movie based in the desert. I'm really into Westerns and guns. In fact throughout this whole album I think I might mention a gun in every song except two of them. This song also covers pretty much every subject in the whole album, condensed into 5m 06s.

Radio Waves
My favourite song on the record and live and ever. Another western influenced song.

Pray The Soul Away
The newest O. Children song. Another one that doesn't really have a story. It just happened and we liked it so we went with it.

Don't Dig
I was having a long drunken conversation with my cousin about death and the last rites. I decided I didn't want anything fancy.

Lily's Man (hidden track)
A silly song about boner rage. My favourite song ever."
