Guitarist Carl Broemel is set to take time out of My Morning Jacket in order to work on a new solo album.
My Morning Jacket are one of America's most inventive albums. Sure, they might be cited as an influence by Band Of Horses and Fleet Foxes, but the group's music is much more varied than at first glance.
Capable of moving from country rock to white boy funk, various members of My Morning Jacket have also branched out into solo projects.
Guitarist Carl Broemel is the latest to release music under his own name, with new album 'All Birds Say' due for release on August 31st. Preview single 'Heaven Knows' has already been released, with the songwriter mixing country influences with an orchestral setting.
Unusually, the guitarist has been joined by his father for the album. Broemel Sr is a former member of the Indianapolis Symphony and has contributed baritone sax, clarinet and bassoon on the album.
"I think there's a lot of trying to be aware of what you're doing now versus dwelling on things or worrying about what's gonna happen later," said Broemel. "A lot of the songs are really just me talking to myself, trying to make sense of things in my head."
Continuing, the guitarist spoke about the recording process. "To me, making records is like alchemy. It's something that no-one can ever perfect, but you have an insatiable desire to keep doing it and get better at it," he explained.
"I really believe that everything we experience contributes to what we do next, so this album is really a result of all the records and tours I've done so far."
Meanwhile, My Morning Jacket are set to open for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on their new tour before kickstarting their own headline jaunt. Part of the new tour will include five shows in New York, during which they will play each of their studio albums.
Carl Broemel will release 'All Birds Say' on August 31st.
