Georgia based mavericks of Montreal are plotting a bizarre new tour with Janelle Monae.
There is much more to the Southern states of the USA than red necks and country music. The area has a deep history as well as a love of the arts which translates into a rich and versatile music scene.
Hailing from the art college town of Athens, Georgia of Montreal are part of this heritage. Returning with their new album, the band have confirmed a lengthy American tour which they claim could be quite spectacular.
of Montreal are due to perform 'False Priest' at venues across the United States, with fellow Southern star Janelle Monae in tow. The pair will construct a lavish live show, to match their deeply individual music.
Speaking to Pitchfork, Kevin Barnes said: "We're going to marry the two shows together, in a way. It doesn't feel like you go see a band, and there's a pause, and there's another pause, and then it's over."
"We want to control the environment from right when the doors open, and have performance art and video performances and so many different levels of artistic stimulation that would go on throughout the whole night, so there's never a moment where there's house music or boring lighting. We want to transform the venues each night, so it becomes this exceptional experience for everyone."
A newcomer, Janelle Monae mixes retro soul with outlandish costumes and visually stunning shows. An intriguing counter point to the psych-pop of Montreal usually create, it will be interesting to see if the tour comes to Europe.
