Deeply eccentric songwriter Jim Noir has offered fans a new free download EP from his website.

Whimsical, melancholic and deeply eccentric Jim Noir's songwriting belongs in the great English psych-pop tradition started by Syd Barrett.

At times child like, his songs are nonetheless affecting, as if The Beach Boys had swapped the sunshine of California for the rain of Manchester. Signed to tiny My Dad Recordings, Jim Noir has gone on to become a cult name.

Releasing two full albums, Jim Noir has now decided to release new material as a free EP. Titled 'Melody Junction' the four track collection is available as a free download from his official website.

Almost immediately after the new EP Jim Noir is set to release another batch of songs. The six track 'Zooper Dooper' EP will receive a physical release later this year, completing a new cycle of material.

Jim Noir had intended to release a full album, but decided to split the material in two. “The 4 track is the remnants of an album that got dropped on the floor and couldn’t be worked on anymore,” he said.

“As I started writing more new stuff it seemed to not really sound like what I was doing last year, so I’ve decided to give these away and make people buy the fresh bits. Not to diss my own work, but the reason they are free is because I just think the six track EP is much better.”

Continuing, Jim Noir explained that the releases comprise the entire 'lost' album, with no bonus recordings left unreleased. “Most of the work I did for my 3rd album became lost in the great hard drive disaster of 2009 and all I have left of it is a few mp3s I sent to friends,” he says. “I now have to download my own music from myself to hear what it could have been.”
