The first cut from Jamie xx tackling Gil Scott Heron on 'We're Here Now' have been released.
Jamie xx is the producer de jour. Stepping away from The xx, the DJ has secured a residency at the Warehouse Project in Manchester while remix offers have come flooding in after that Florence re-work.
Recently tackling Adele's comeback single, Jamie xx is also responsible for a soca flavoured cut on Numbers. However perhaps the most intriguing project the young producer has accepted involved an artist four decades his senior.
Returning last year, Gil Scott Heron imbued 'I'm New Here' with the wisdom of a life lived on the wrong side of the tracks. A wonderfully humane album, it updates his jazz-funk template for a more mature artist.
Released on XL, the label handed the tapes to Jamie xx. Working on a completely new mix of the album, the project unites two very different artists.
Kept under lock and key, 'We're New Here' is due for release this Spring. As a special preview, the new version of 'I'll Take Care Of You' has been uploaded as a stream. Available as a single from February 21st, you can listen to it below...
