
Ivy League afro-pop merchants Vampire Weekend performed a free show in Manchester last night (July 8th).
Music and charity have long gone together. Put Live Aid out of your mind, away from the bombast (and Bono) there are numerous projects making a huge difference to people everyday.
Orange Rockcorps announced a new project earlier this year, inviting fans to give up their time in exchange for tickets for an all star show.
Fans who gave up four hours to work in community projects across Manchester were given tickets to the show which took place last night (July 8th). Taking control of the city's Apollo venue over 3000 fans crammed into the arena.
Grime star Tinie Tempah opened the concert, blasting his way through recent hit singles. The rapper was on lively form, getting the massive crowd on their feet for tracks such as 'Written In The Stars'.
Later, Mr Hudson took the stage to blast through songs from his debut solo album. Including those much talked about Jay-Z and Kanye West collaborations, the singer kept the 3000 strong crowd entertained.
Headliner Snoop Dogg played a rare British set, performing in a Manchester United shirt with Rio Ferdinand's name on the back. Rolling out a number of classic hits, the hip hop icon also played newer tracks such as 'I Wanna Rock'.
Vampire Weekend played a show stopping set, mixing songs from 'Contra' with their acclaimed debut album. Opening with current single 'Holiday' the band blasted through tracks such as 'White Sky' and 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa'.
"I know you guys have been working all day," frontman Ezra Koenig said. "But this is the easiest song we've got to dance to."
Blasting into 'A-Punk' the group then finished with a rendition of 'Walcott' to huge cheers from the Apollo crowd.
